A Two Day Festival for Freedom! Governors Ride, Music, Food and FUN! The Summersville Freedom Rally was initiated by Governor Joe Manchin in 2001. The Governor was looking for a community to host a rally honoring not only our troops, but also the fire, rescue, and police personnel that willingly lay down their lives every day. The Freedom Rally is our way to thank them for protecting all of the citizen's of America and specifically, West Virginia.
Summersville came to the governor's mind as being a community who is extremely proud of their veteran's, their military and their public service personnel. This festival is geared to young and old alike with a huge emphasis on a patriotic theme. This festival is in it's 6th year and this year's event will be highlighted with the return of the 821st Engineering Battalion from Iraq. Motorcyclists will travel from all over the state and from surrounding states to attend this event and to get the opportunity to ride with West Virginia's Governor Joe Manchin. This year's "Governor's Ride" will take us into "sister-communities" of Fayetteville, and Richwood where the group will make stops to provide a "salute" to all the men and women who serve us in need. The fact that Summersville is centrally located in the state, with an abundance of beautiful roads made us the obvious choice for such an honor. Summersville graciously stepped up to the challenge and the Summersville Freedom Rally was formed through the City of Summersville. |
